LA Opera: La Traviata (2006, debut); 63 different operas and over 400 performances to date. He has been Richard Seaver Music Director since 2006. In the 2021/22 season, he will conduct Il Trovatore, Tannhäuser, St. Matthew Passion and Aida, as well as The Three Women of Jerusalem at the Cathedral.
Career highlights: He has led virtually every major North American and European orchestra and over 270 performances at the Metropolitan Opera. This season, he became Artistic Advisor of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. He previously was Principal Conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra of the RAI in Torino (2016-20), Music Director of the Ravinia Festival, summer home of the Chicago Symphony (2005-2015), Principal Conductor of the Paris National Opera (1995-2004), General Music Director of the City of Cologne (1989-2002), Music Director of the Rotterdam Philharmonic (1983-91) and Music Director of the Cincinnati May Festival (1979-2016). He has won three Grammy Awards and was awarded France’s Légion d’Honneur.

Francisco Negrín

Career highlights: Francisco Negrín is a stage director mostly working in opera who has also created arena and stadium projects, museum openings, fashion shows and other commercial events, including the opening of the 2017 AIMAG (with 6000 performers, one of the largest shows ever), two ice shows at the Arena di Verona and a one-kilometer-wide show at the Dubai World Cup. He has directed over 70 critically acclaimed productions in the leading opera houses around the globe, many of which have been televised and released on DVD. The Royal Opera House in London, Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Sydney Opera House, New York City Opera, the Dutch National Opera and the Théâtre des Champs Elysées in Paris are only a few of the major companies where his work has been presented. His London production of Handel’s Orlando was nominated for two Olivier Awards.

About: As a director, scenery designer and costume designer, he has participated in numerous opera productions in Europe, North America and Asia. This season, he directs a new production of Guillaume Tell for the Opéra de Marseille. In 2020, he directed Don Quichotte for the Opéra de Saint-Étienne and Opéra de Tours. Since his 2007 debut at the Teatro Colòn in Buenos Aires, designing the sets and costumes for Werther, he has worked all over the world, including productions for the Opéra National de Paris, Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels, Dutch National Opera, Royal Danish Opera, Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville, Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Palau de les Arts de Valencia, Leipzig Opera and more. His work in North America includes sets and costumes for Werther with San Francisco Opera and Lyric Opera of Chicago, and for Ariane et Barbe-Bleue with New York City Opera.

About: Working extensively in opera, theater, dance and live music, he has designed for many of the world’s leading opera houses, with Rusalka (Sydney Opera House) winning the Australian Green Room Award. He has won three Knight of Illumination Awards, one for Björk’s Cornucopia (with Richard White), one for the Sigur Rós 2013 world tour and one for Frankenstein at the National Theatre, for which he also won the Olivier Award. Recently he was nominated for an Olivier Award for Uncle Vanya in the West End and for a Drama Desk Award for Tina: The Musical on Broadway. His work in opera includes Akhnaten (Metropolitan Opera, English National Opera), Otello, Don Giovanni and Mahagonny (Covent Garden), Aida (ENO, Houston Grand Opera), Rinaldo (Lyric Opera of Chicago), Macbeth (Opéra National du Rhin, Opéra de Monte-Carlo) and Salome (Palau de les Arts, Valencia.

LA Opera: Resident Conductor since 2012, he made his LA Opera conducting debut with La Traviata (2009). He has conducted 15 productions to date including, most recently, The Magic Flute (2019).
About: He conducted San Francisco Opera’s 2017 world premiere of John Adams’ Girls of the Golden West, which he also conducted for the Dutch National Opera. He has conducted Rigoletto, Tosca, La Bohème, La Traviata, Carmen and Madama Butterfly at Wolf Trap Opera with the National Symphony Orchestra; John Adams’ The Gospel According to the Other Mary at the San Francisco Symphony and Ravinia Festival; Vivaldi’s Griselda at Santa Fe Opera; and many concerts with the LA Philharmonic. He is the Kiki & David Gindler Artistic Director of the LA Master Chorale, where he is celebrating his 20th anniversary season. Angela Kleopatra Saroglou

About: She studied at the School of Drama of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. As a singer, she performed with the Thessaloniki Chamber Opera and was a member of the Macedonia Chorus conducted by Antonis Kontogeorgiou (1993- 2008). As a director’s assistant, she worked with the Thessaloniki Concert Hall (2001-06) and Greek National Opera (2007-12). In 2016 she directed Handel’s Scipione for the Handel Festival in Bad Lauchstädt, Germany. As dramaturg, she collaborated with director Arnaud Bernard for Nabucco at the Arena di Verona (2017) and The Girl of the Golden West at the Mariinsky Theater (2019). For the Greek National Opera, she has directed Carmen, Baldassare Galuppi’s L’Amante di Tutte and the contemporary chamber operas Requiem Akhmatova and The Anniversary by Harris Vrondos. |
