Career highlights: Awarded the prestigious “Premio Abbiati” by the Italian Music Critics Association, he is Musical Director of Parma’s Festival Verdi. He made his U.S. debut in 1991 and has returned regularly to lead the symphony orchestras of Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas, San Francisco and Los Angeles, as well as the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, where he is an Artistic Partner. Previously, he was Musical Director of the Munich Radio Orchestra (1991-98) and of Valencia’s Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía (2015-19). He has conducted Fedora and Ernani at the Metropolitan Opera; I Vespri Siciliani at the Vienna State Opera; La Gioconda, Lucia di Lammermoor, La Donna del Lago and the world premiere of Fabio Vacchi’s Teneke at La Scala, among others. More recently, he conducted I Puritani in Rome; Lucia di Lammermoor in Palermo; and Macbeth, Messa da Requiem and Un Ballo in Maschera at the Festival Verdi in Parma.

Career highlights: Laurent Pelly's work can be seen all over the world. With a natural affinity for Italian and French repertoire, his creative curiosity has led him in recent years towards other works by other composers, including Russian and Czech, to which he brings his trademark sense of dark humor and surreal fantasy. New productions in 2021/22 include A Midsummer Night’s Dream in Lille, Così fan tutte at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées and a Poulenc double bill of La Voix Humaine and Les Mamelles de Tirésias for the Glyndebourne Festival. Other current work includes Falstaff (La Monnaie, Opéra National de Bordeaux, Nikikai Opera Foundation Tokyo), L’Elisir d’Amore and Platée (Opéra National de Paris) and The Marriage of Figaro (Santa Fe Opera). He was co-director of Théâtre National de Toulouse MidiPyrénées (2008-18).

About: She studied at the École des Arts Décoratifs, Paris. She has worked with Laurent Pelly on more than 60 productions, including I Puritani, Giulio Cesare, L’Elisir d’Amore, Ariadne auf Naxos, Platée (Opéra de Paris), The Daughter of the Regiment, Manon, Robert le Diable (Royal Opera House, Metropolitan Opera), Don Pasquale (Santa Fe, Brussels), L’Étoile, The Love for Three Oranges (Amsterdam), Pelléas et Mélisande (Theater an der Wien) and La Traviata, Candide (Santa Fe). Their last collaborations include The Marriage of Figaro (Santa Fe) and Barbe Bleue (Lyon, Marseille). Her work has also been seen at La Scala, the Liceu in Barcelona and Vienna State Opera, among others. She has worked with directors and choreographers including Fréderic Bélier-Garcia, Michel Rostain, Laura Scozzi and Richard Brunel. Upcoming projects include Così fan tutte at the Théâtre des Champs Élysées and The Turk in Italy in Madrid.

About: After studying architecture at the Beaux-Arts in Paris and fashion at La Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne, he began his career designing costumes for theater and contemporary dance companies. In 2000, he worked with director Laurent Pelly for the first time, marking the beginning of a close collaboration. Projects for 2022 include A Midsummer Night’s Dream in Lille, Così fan tutte at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées in Paris, and a Poulenc double bill for the Glyndebourne Festival. Other current work includes La Cenerentola (Amsterdam, Geneva, Valencia), Falstaff (Brussels, Bordeaux, Tokyo), The Marriage of Figaro (Santa Fe) and Mary Chase’s play Harvey (Lyon). He has collaborated with director Laura Scozzi for The Magic Flute (Bordeaux) and Les Indes Galantes (Toulouse) and with Yves Lenoir for Giovanna d’Arco (Biel and Tours) and Jenůfa (Dijon), as well as I Capuleti e i Montecchi this season in Biel.

About: His 28 designs for the Metropolitan Opera include the world premieres of The Great Gatsby and The First Emperor. He has designed more than 135 productions at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. His engagements this season include Boris Godunov and Cendrillon at the Metropolitan Opera, Tosca at Lyric Opera of Chicago, and Lucia di Lammermoor at the Vienna State Opera. Highlights of recent seasons include Mefistofele at the Metropolitan Opera, The Marriage of Figaro at Santa Fe Opera, Faust at Lyric Opera of Chicago and Don Pasquale in Brussels. On Broadway, he designed The Importance of Being Earnest. Other credits include Cendrillon and Robert le Diable at Covent Garden and Turandot, Lulu and Lohengrin at La Scala. He is a founding partner of the theater planning and architectural lighting design firm Schuler Shook.

LA Opera: Resident Conductor since 2012, he made his LA Opera conducting debut with La Traviata (2009). He has conducted 15 productions to date including, most recently, The Magic Flute (2019).
About: He conducted San Francisco Opera’s 2017 world premiere of John Adams’ Girls of the Golden West, which he also conducted for the Dutch National Opera. He has conducted Rigoletto, Tosca, La Bohème, La Traviata, Carmen and Madama Butterfly at Wolf Trap Opera with the National Symphony Orchestra; John Adams’ The Gospel According to the Other Mary at the San Francisco Symphony and Ravinia Festival; Vivaldi’s Griselda at Santa Fe Opera; and many concerts with the LA Philharmonic. He is the Kiki & David Gindler Artistic Director of the LA Master Chorale, where he is celebrating his 20th anniversary season. His discography includes recordings with LAMC as well as DVDs of Il Postino and Gianni Schicchi from LA Opera.
